While it’s probably false hope, I’m hoping the vet has made a mistake. Could it be Blackie is OK? She did say, because of the position of the lump in his leg, she’d give the same prognosis even if it wasn’t malignant.
Realistically he’s 13, he’s generally slowing up, he’s usually reluctant to get into the car these days.
And yet he seems so well and energetic. I can’t believe he’s dying. I saw a different vet this time, as Jen was away, and she too was impressed by this interest and liveliness. So was Jen last time. I’ll see her again in a month.
He loves his trips to the beach, catching up with his mates, having a swim, rolling his wet body in the sand, welcoming me and Gracie home, sleeping in my bed at the end of the day.
Given 3 to 6 months to live, it’s now 5 months. Maybe I’ve got him longer than expected.
Sure going to enjoy this extra time.
Good Luck, I love my dog to pieces and couldn’t imagine my life without him!

Yes, I’m hoping that day isn’t too close for Blackie. Thanks for your concern xx

I hope he gets to stay around a few more years. I felt sick when I read your article, I love dogs. We have a blue heeler mix that has bumps on her, we call them old dog bumps. She tested benign, thankfully, but one is affecting her ability to walk properly. She is 16.

I don’t think non-dog people can understand. I hope yours too has a long life. Don’t they age with such grace and dignity.

While you can never know how long you get with them, you know that all the time you have left together will be quality time. One of my black dogs is unwell at the moment, still working out what’s wrong. It’s sad, they are such big parts of the family.

Very good advice. I’m so scared of him going. Just don’t want to let go. But I have to for his sake when the time comes. Xx

unfortunately, blackie, jimmy or sherlock will not live for ever, not unless you’re holding back on that foundation of youth you found. cherish every moment with blackie, because those moments will be all you have when he is gone.
like the time jimmy got beaned in the head by a rabbit (long story).
or
how sherlock runs and gets his blanket and offers it up as a gift to any newly arriving person/people, including guests, Mary and i.
